A Gallery Talks art tour of Apsley House, 149 Piccadilly, London, W1J 7NT
is taking place on Wednesday 10th June, from 11.00am until 1.00pm.
I will guide the group through the extraordinary art collection of the 1st Duke of Wellington, which includes masterpieces by Titian, Velazquez, Rubens, Bruegel and Goya. The internationally important Wellington Collection is displayed in sumptuous interiors such as the Waterloo Gallery and the Piccadilly Drawing Room where stunning paintings, many of which were from the Spanish Royal Collection, are densely hung.
Apsley House, also known as Number One London, has been a family home to the Dukes of Wellington since the early 19th century and visitors today have the rare opportunity to view the art collection in the rooms in which it was originally shown. The house, together with a large part of its contents, was presented to the nation in 1947 as a gift to the nation from the 7th Duke of Wellington and, whilst the family still live in part of the house, the museum is now cared for and run by English Heritage.
If you would like to join the group for this tour, please contact me and I will send you further details.
The fee for this Gallery Talk tour is £30, including a set of notes sent out by email afterwards. There is an additional entrance charge of £10.50 and it is free for members of English Heritage.
As with all Gallery Talks groups the maximum number is 10 people and I will need to confirm numbers with Apsley House at least one week in advance of our visit.
I look forward to guiding you through the Wellington Collection at Apsley House!
